Cyprus · Month 03 of 12
Cyprus in
March.
Spring takes hold — wildflowers in the Akamas, kite-flying for Green Monday, properly walkable weather.
The weather, honestly
March is the first month that feels unambiguously good. Daytime highs of 19-22°C, rain days down to seven, the Akamas covered in wildflowers. Sea temperature still 18°C — fine for a short swim if you grew up in the North Atlantic.
What to actually do
Hiking is at its peak in March. The Akamas wildflower season runs through the month — short walks from Lara Bay or Aphrodite's Baths reveal something different every week. Green Monday (the first day of Orthodox Lent) is celebrated with picnics and kite-flying — every park in every town has families with kites.
Events & festivals
- Green Monday — Everywhere — best in mountain villages. Movable feast, 48 days before Orthodox Easter. Picnics, kites, the start of Lent.
- Cyprus Rally — Across the island. Mid-March. WRC-adjacent event with mountain stages.
Where to go
- Akamas. Peak wildflower season — orchids, anemones, cyclamen.
- Troodos. Last skiing at altitude into early March; perfect hiking by month-end.
- Paphos. Mild enough for full days outdoors at Tombs of the Kings and the Archaeological Park.
What to pack
- Light layers — t-shirts work by day, sweaters in the evening
- Proper walking shoes
- A light jacket
- Swim trunks if you're brave
Practical notes
Beach resorts begin to wake up around mid-month. Sea-front tavernas reopen gradually.
