Cyprus · Month 05 of 12
Cyprus in
May.
The best month for most travellers — warm, swimmable, not yet packed.
The weather, honestly
May is the Cyprus everyone hopes for. Highs of 27°C, sea up to 21°C and rising weekly, eleven hours of sun, three rain days. Long evenings on the coast, comfortable nights, the inland villages not yet too hot for daytime exploring.
What to actually do
Beach weather without the August oven. The Akamas is still green; the cities work properly because it's not too hot to walk. Wine season begins — the Krasochoria taste-and-buy weekends start picking up. Ayia Napa and Protaras are beautifully quiet relative to June onwards.
Events & festivals
- Anthestiria continues — Larnaca, Pafos. Early-mid May, the largest of the flower festivals.
- Cyprus International Film Festival — Nicosia, Limassol. Late May.
Where to go
- Ayia Napa & Protaras. Best month before the summer crowd arrives — Nissi, Konnos, Fig Tree Bay at their quietest swimmable best.
- Akamas. Last green month before the summer brown.
- Krasochoria. Wineries are pleasant temperatures, no rush.
What to pack
- Beach clothes, plus a thin sweater for late evenings
- Sun cream factor 30+
- A hat — the UV is full-summer strength
Practical notes
Everything is open. Sea is swimmable from mid-month. Hotel prices climb steadily toward summer rates.
