Cyprus in
August.
Hottest sea of the year, busiest of every beach — pick your bay wisely.
The weather, honestly
August is July with hotter water. Sea temperatures peak at 27-28°C, hot enough to feel slightly underwhelming if you want a refreshing swim. Air temperatures hold steady at 34°C on the coast, with 40°C+ days inland.
What to actually do
Cyprus's busiest month — locals take their holidays, Europe arrives, every beach has its share of inflatable unicorns. The Pafos Aphrodite Festival (open-air opera at the medieval fort) is the cultural moment of the year. Pick less obvious bays — Lara Beach, Avdimou, Pissouri — to escape the crowds.
Events & festivals
- Pafos Aphrodite Festival — Paphos Medieval Castle. Open-air opera against the harbour. The cultural event of the Cypriot year.
- Wine festivals (small villages) — Various. Late August through September — village by village.
Where to go
- Akamas (north coast). Lara Bay and beyond — less crowded than Pafos beaches.
- Pissouri & Avdimou. Quieter alternatives between Limassol and Paphos.
- Troodos villages, evenings. Cool sleep, 8°C cooler than the coast at night.
What to pack
- Beach essentials
- Sun protection at maximum
- Light, breathable evening clothes
Practical notes
Peak prices. Beach umbrellas at popular bays go by 9am. Pre-book everything.
