Larnaca Airport to Paphos: shuttle, taxi, bus or hire car?

For most people landing at Larnaca Airport for a Paphos stay, the airport shuttle is the simplest public-transport starting point — but it finishes at Paphos Airport, not at a Paphos hotel. From there, use a local bus or short taxi for the last leg. Choose a private transfer or taxi when you need a door-to-door arrival, and a hire car when it will improve the rest of the holiday as well.

That final-leg detail is the one worth getting right. “Paphos” can mean the harbour, Tombs of the Kings, old town, Chloraka, Coral Bay or an inland villa. A transfer that is technically direct to the area can still leave you with an awkward walk and suitcases if you have not checked the actual drop-off.

Cyprus Tourism lists Larnaca Airport as about 140km from Paphos and names airport-transfer buses, taxis and car hire among the available options. That distance is why a little planning matters more here than it does for a short resort transfer. The scheduled option: airport shuttle to Paphos Airport

The official Cyprus tourism transport page lists Kapnos Airport Shuttle for the Larnaca Airport–Paphos Airport route. This is the important wording: the scheduled service connects the two airports. It is not a hotel-by-hotel Paphos coach and it is not the same thing as a direct private transfer to Paphos town.

For a traveller whose destination is Paphos, this can still be an excellent option. The main cross-island journey is in one vehicle, the service is designed for airport passengers, and you can decide the final leg after seeing where the accommodation actually sits. But it only works well when the published departure, your realistic baggage-reclaim time and the onward local service line up.

Open Kapnos’s live timetable and booking page for your travel date rather than relying on a copied timetable or an old booking-site price. The operator identifies its Larnaca Airport pickup point as the airport-shuttle counter by the exit towards buses and taxis; its Paphos Airport point is in the arrivals hall by the exit. Save the confirmation, stop details and contact information offline before you fly.

Plan the Paphos Airport-to-town leg before you commit

From Paphos Airport, the local 612 route is the useful connection towards the Paphos tourist area and Tombs of the Kings. It is the same airport bus visitors use when arriving directly at Paphos Airport, so the next decision is about your hotel, not the island crossing.

Check the official Pafos Buses 612 page for the current timetable and stops. If the hotel is near the harbour, Kato Paphos or Tombs of the Kings, the bus can be a sensible last leg. If it is in Coral Bay, Peyia, Chloraka or on a steep residential road, compare the connection and walk with a taxi from the airport or a transfer booked from Larnaca.

Do not assume that a ticket, timing or luggage rule from the airport shuttle automatically applies to the local bus. They are different operators and services. The safe arrival plan is to treat them as two separate journeys:

1. Check that the Kapnos departure leaves enough time after your flight actually arrives.
2. Check the 612 timetable and your hotel’s map pin before purchasing the shuttle.
3. Save the final walking route, or a taxi backup, in case the connection is inconvenient after a delay.
4. Recheck both live services on the day you travel.

Taxi or private transfer: choose certainty when the final mile matters

A taxi or pre-booked transfer is not merely the expensive version of the shuttle. It solves a different problem: getting a particular group, with particular luggage, to a particular door without adding a second timetable after a flight.

It is usually the calmer choice if you are arriving late, travelling with a pushchair, need a child seat, have limited mobility, are staying in a villa, or simply do not want the prospect of a change after landing. For groups, compare the vehicle price rather than multiplying a per-person shuttle fare; the convenience gap can narrow quickly.

Use it as an indication of the official framework, then confirm the current, complete quote for your own date — prices, categories and the precise Paphos area should be checked directly. A private-transfer quote should also state exactly what it includes.

Before booking, confirm:

• the full property address, not only “Paphos”;
• total price, including any night, waiting or airport supplements;
• passenger and suitcase capacity for the specific vehicle;
• child seats, wheelchair space or other access requirements;
• the meeting point, flight-delay policy and how the driver will contact you.

Avoid treating a headline “from” price as a quote. A transparent booking tells you what will happen if baggage takes longer, a flight moves or the accommodation turns out to be beyond the advertised central zone.

Hire car: sensible for a Paphos itinerary, not automatically for one transfer

Larnaca Airport is a practical place to collect a hire car if Paphos will be the base for a wider road trip. A car makes it easier to reach smaller beaches, wine villages, the Akamas approach roads and places where an organised day or a taxi would otherwise be the only realistic choice.

It is less compelling for a central Paphos break built around the harbour, archaeological sites, pool and a few booked excursions. In that case, the car can mean collection paperwork, parking and driving immediately after a flight without delivering much value later.

What not to do: turn a simple transfer into three uncertain ones

It is possible to construct an all-local-bus itinerary from Larnaca Airport through the city and onward across Cyprus. It is rarely the right default after a flight. Cyprus Tourism distinguishes airport transfers, interurban buses and local urban networks because they do different jobs; a search result that says “bus” does not promise one through service.

If the scheduled airport shuttle does not fit your arrival, a pre-booked transfer is normally a clearer solution than stitching together local connections with luggage. Use a fully public-transport route only when saving money is more important than simplicity, you are travelling light, the timetables work in daylight and you have a credible final-mile plan.

The best choice is the one that survives the real version of the day, including a slow baggage belt and a tired child. Before departure, save the accommodation’s full address and map pin; check when you will realistically leave the terminal; compare that with the live shuttle timetable; and decide what you will do if the final connection does not work.
