Intercity Buses runs a direct bus from Larnaca to Limassol about every 45 minutes on weekdays: twenty departures from 05:55 to 21:15, starting at the Nicolaides Building stop on Archbishop Makarios III Avenue. At weekends and on public holidays there are twelve, from 07:30 to 19:30. The trip takes about an hour and a half, costs 5 euros one way in cash, and stops all along the Limassol hotel strip before ending at the New Port. Driving is about 70 km of motorway and under an hour. A daytime taxi on the meter would come to roughly 70 euros.

Most of what ranks for this journey is really about Larnaca Airport: transfer sellers, a Reddit post on the airport bus and a Tripadvisor thread from 2010. This guide covers the town: Larnaca’s seafront and old town to Limassol and back, with the operator’s current timetable for both directions, where to get on and off, and the arithmetic for a car and a taxi. Landing at the airport and going straight to Limassol? The Larnaca Airport to Limassol guide covers the direct airport shuttle, which is a separate service.

The operator gives the journey as about 1 hour 30 minutes end to end. The 05:55, 10:15 and 15:45 weekday departures from Larnaca carry on to Paphos after a stop in Limassol; they are covered in our Larnaca to Paphos guide.

Older pages, and the archived copy of this timetable from 2025, give Finikoudes as the first stop and fewer departures. The current page lists neither, so board at the Nicolaides Building or one of the stops below.

Where to get on and off

In Larnaca the bus picks up at the Nicolaides Building, the Old Hospital, Municipal Library, the Agamemnonas fire station kiosk on Nikou kai Despinas Pattichi Avenue, Xidias and Krasa Hill on Limassol Avenue, so the west side of town has stops too. It then calls at Choirokoitia, by the Oasis restaurant on the old B1 road, about 450 m by road from the Neolithic settlement, so you can break the journey there without a car.

In Limassol the route serves the hotel coast before the centre. The operator lists stops at the Saint Raphael (Amathountos Avenue, by the Hawaii hotel), the Four Seasons, High Chaparral, Azur and Park Beach hotels on Georgiou A’, then Debenhams and the GSO stadium stop on 28 Oktovriou, the Agia Napa church on Spyrou Araouzou, the Agios Antonios church, Social Insurance on Franklin Roosevelt, Primetel on Omonoias and finally the New Port. If you are staying in Germasogeia or Agios Tychonas, get off at the nearest hotel stop rather than riding to the port.

The Agia Napa church stop is the one for Limassol old town and the castle. From the New Port, EMEL’s local route 30 runs back along the seafront through the old port and the whole tourist strip to the Parklane hotel, according to the Limassol Buses route list.

The return buses use the same stops in reverse, except that the Agamemnonas kiosk is not listed for Larnaca-bound services.

Limassol to Larnaca, and day trips

Day trip from Larnaca. On a weekday, the 09:00 reaches Limassol around 10:30, and buses back run every half hour to hour until 21:20, giving a full day for the old town, the beaches and the marina. At weekends, take the 08:45 or 09:30 and note that the last bus back leaves the New Port at 19:30.

Day trip from Limassol. The 09:00 from the New Port reaches Larnaca around 10:30. That leaves plenty of time for Larnaca old town, the Church of Saint Lazarus and the salt lake, with returns from the Nicolaides Building until 21:15 on weekdays.

If you are still choosing between the two towns as a base, our Limassol or Larnaca comparison is the better page.

Driving: about 70 km of motorway

The road distance from the Nicolaides Building in Larnaca to Limassol Castle is 69.8 km, and to the marina 67.4 km. The OSRM routing engine times both at about an hour without stops, which is cautious for a road that is almost all motorway; Rome2Rio quotes about 50 minutes. You take the A3 west out of Larnaca to the junction near Kofinou, then the A1 into Limassol, with no tolls and a 100 km/h limit. The east side of Limassol is nearer: the Saint Raphael area is 55 km and about 48 minutes. Cyprus drives on the left, and our driving in Cyprus guide covers the rules.

Driving makes the most sense when you want to stop on the way:

StopFrom central LarnacaWhat it adds
Choirokoitia34 km, about 35 minutesA UNESCO Neolithic village beside the motorway; an hour is enough
Lefkara39 km, about 40 minutesLace and silver village, a short detour into the hills
Governor’s Beach54 km, about 50 minutesWhite rocks, dark sand and a fish lunch just off the A1
Amathus56 km, about 50 minutesAncient city ruins on the seafront at the edge of Limassol

Taxi and transfer: the tariff arithmetic

A taxi between the two towns is usually sold as a fixed-price transfer, so get a written quote for your addresses. The Deputy Ministry of Tourism’s transport page gives the urban tariff as a 3.80 euro initial charge plus 0.95 euros per kilometre from 06:01 to 20:30, and 4.80 euros plus 1.10 euros per kilometre at night, with 1.40 euros per piece of luggage and 20 per cent extra for five passengers.

Daytime (06:01 to 20:30)Night (20:31 to 06:00)
Meter for 70 km to central Limassolabout 70 eurosabout 82 euros
Plus two suitcasesabout 73 eurosabout 85 euros
Four people, per headabout 18 eurosabout 21 euros

For one or two people the bus at 5 euros each is far cheaper. For four with luggage, or a late-night arrival after the last bus, a taxi at about 18 euros a head is reasonable. Our Cyprus taxi guide explains the meter, rural taxis and transfers.

Things people search for that do not exist

A train. Cyprus has no passenger railway.

A ferry. There is no boat between Larnaca and Limassol. The only scheduled passenger sailings from the Republic are the seasonal Limassol to Piraeus crossings in our Cyprus ferry guide.

A bus from Finikoudes. It used to be the first stop and many pages still say so, but the current timetable starts at the Nicolaides Building.

The short answer

Take the Intercity bus from the Nicolaides Building: twenty a day on weekdays, twelve at weekends, 5 euros and about an hour and a half, with stops outside the main Limassol hotels. Drive if you want Choirokoitia or Lefkara on the way, and book a taxi or transfer for a group, heavy luggage or anything after the last bus. Check the operator’s page the day before you travel, and see our public transport in Cyprus guide for how the different bus networks fit together.
